Uk Libs to document all web info

Uk Libs to document all web info

If you are in the UK and you have made public blogs, tweets, or FB remarks or updates, they will be archived by 6 major UK libraries whose goal is to save ALL public web info. They are also archiving publications. The public can access the info for free, but at this point you must go physically to the libraries to access the info. The libraries hope to document a billion pages and 4.8 million active UK websites. This is a huge undertaking to document what is happening now and recently online. I hope they have a big budget. To read about it click here http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-22028738  This parallels the Digital Public Library effort here in the US which I have also blogged about.  A question to ask is that sometimes material that we may not think is public is public on FB. What will future generations think of this information?
